Bob Gibson has been a major contributor to Missouri baseball since he first signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959. Gibson played for the Cardinals from 1959-1975. In those 17 years, he established a record for the most consecutive games as the starting pitcher with 303 starting games. He also established the major league record for the lowest earned run average in 300 or more innings and led the National League with 13 shutouts in 1968. Gibson was named the National League MVP in 1968 and won the National League Cy Young Award from 1968-1970. In 1969, Gibson led the National League with 28 complete games and pitched a no hitter on August 14, 1971. He established the most seasons of 200 or more strikeouts in 1972. Gibson was named to the National League All-Star Team eight times and ended his pitching career with 3,117 lifetime strikeout.

In 1981, Bob was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
